Gathering of all the finalists for WOW – World of Wearable Art 2016

This was the Designer Day preceding the Awards night on the 23rd of September both New Zealand and overseas finalists were able to meet and mingle over a day of talks seminars demonstrations and backstage awareness.

The directors of the show Mike Mizrahi and Marie Adams are the show directors of the WOW Awards – they gave a half hour talk on their insight into their roles and creative environment – then a backstage tour of the TSB Banks Arena including wardrobe/ hair designer /choreography
Lunch at the Museum of Art and History and then three keynote speakers the first is Reuben Paterson – one of NZ most dynamic Artists who inspired the theme of GLITTER for WOW 2016 the second speaker Elizabeth Whiting designs character costumes and Dylan Mulder is a four times finalist using digital media and 3 D printing technologies.
WETA workshop that has over 160 films they have worked on includin AVATAR and LORD OF THE RINGS gave a two hour demonstration on prosthetics and a devilish sculpting of sword scars on any of us who ever wanted to be a Troll or an Elf or a Hobbit. The day was complete with a talk from Denise Tetreault who is the director of Cirque de Soleil – she is the lifecycle Costumery and Creative Spaces Director
What can I say – BRILLIANT and INSPIRATIONAL
